Experience
2003-Present Founder, The GIS Institute. Provide GIS services to conservation and humanitarian groups through worldwide geographic educational outreach program. Conservation groups are assisted on-site, and the important work they accomplish is shared with K-12 communities as geographic, social studies, and technology curriculum. Responsible for all aspects of program planning, budget, fundraising, finance, marketing, outreach, program development, and implementation.
1996-2006 President, AllPoints GIS, Inc. Provided international GIS services including; needs assessment, database design, software installation, data conversion, custom programming, and training in a wide variety of GIS topics. Have projects completed and ongoing with a wide range of government, public, and private organizations including; The US Forest Service, PetroTrin (National Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago), NREL (National Renewable Energy Labs), ESRI, NSF (National Science Foundation), Antarctic Support Associates, The University of South Carolina, The University of Tennessee, and CONAP (a Guatemalan government org.).
1992 – 1996 Applications Specialist/Instructor, Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI). Provided technical assistance and consulting to clients in a wide range of application areas including; database implementation, project design, software installation, custom programming, and data conversion. Conducted training in a variety of one week ARC/INFO courses including Introduction to ARC/INFO, Advanced ARC/INFO, AML Programming, and ARCVIEW3. Performed in-house system administration and maintenance.
1991 – 1992 GIS Systems Engineer, Mapping Sciences Division, Intergraph Corporation. Responsibilities included; analysis of Requests for Proposals (RFP’s) received from potential GIS and image processing clients, design of individual hardware and software configurations, and writing compliant technical responses to RFP’s.
1990 – 1991 Teaching Assistant/Computer Lab Assistant, Appalachian State University. Assisted supervisor in GIS and Image Processing Lab utilizing ERDAS, ARC/INFO, and Atlas GIS for land use examination and analysis.
1986 – 1988 Forester, Warren Wilson College Natural Resources Division. Responsibilities included assisting in management of college-owned forest, collection and analysis of forest data, and equipment maintenance.
Summers 88-91 Instructor, Hurricane Island Outward Bound School, Florida and Maine.
