There are numerous climate-related projects going on all over the world. Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) and small conservation organizations, particularly in developing countries, have GIS equipment and software in place to work on these projects, yet few have had adequate training to maximize the benefits of GIS. The use of GIS and other geo-spatial technologies is critical to the collection, measurement, and analysis of data that will enable people, communities, and governments to make informed decisions about the resources we consume. GIS is the “railroad switch-yard”, where individuals and organizations can collaborate and share information about our world. We are dedicated to assisting organizations in acquiring the GIS resources they need to participate in global science, at the local level.
We empower organizations with GIS technology, most with training and access to software grants, who otherwise could not afford to acquire and learn GIS. While “static” or paper maps sufficed in the past, increasing complexity and resource conflicts require that organizations be able to present the best science possible, with documented techniques and methods. In fact, the complexity of climate and ecological challenges demands the clarity and simplicity of GIS-generated maps in order to present a sustainable scientific message that voters and decision-makers can act upon.
